What is

Flâneur?

The life of a flâneur is that of an observer — someone who wanders aimlessly, with eyes always open to any opportunity. It is someone who is in no hurry and prefers the journey to the destination. These guides offer the perspective of a traveling flâneur, to show you what others don’t see and help you enjoy each destination more fully.

Why Traveling Flâneur

Guides from someone who was actually there

I’ve actually been there

Every guide comes from a personal experience; if I recommend a restaurant, it’s because I ate there. If I recommend an agency, I used it myself.

Local history behind each site

These are the itineraries I actually followed, and learnings I found from locals — not generic information you’d find anywhere else.

From a top-performing podcast

My advice is part of the top 5% on Spotify, and listeners already use it to plan real trips.

The method

How a flâneur plans a trip

01

Start with context

I’ll cover the economy, politics, culture, and history — so it all makes sense before you arrive.

02

Plan your itinerary

Real tips from my own trips, including which cities to visit, how long to stay, where to sleep, and how to get around.

03

Walk it day by day

Every city gets its own deep dive: what to see, what to do, where to eat, which neighborhoods are worth getting lost in, and which tours are worth taking.

About

The traveler behind the trail

Traveling Flâneur is built on one simple idea: to fully explore a country, you don’t just visit it. You learn its history, its customs, its legends, and taste its local food. You walk it, you talk to locals, and only then can you see what everyone else misses. I’m María Fernanda Gómez, and I’ve deeply explored 50+ countries across the Americas, Africa, Europe, and Asia. Every guide here comes from my own experience being there.

Questions

Frequently asked

What is Traveling Flâneur?

A travel podcast, top 5% on Spotify, and this website, where I turn those episodes into day-by-day city itineraries. What to do, where to eat, and the history and culture behind it all, everything from someone who’s actually been there.

How is each episode structured?

Each country gets its own mini-series: one episode on its economy, politics, and culture; one dedicated to its history; and a run of city-by-city episodes with real day-by-day itineraries.

What countries does Traveling Flâneur cover?

Only countries I’ve personally visited. You’ll find a lot of Latin America, Eastern Africa, Europe, and more are coming! Since I manually do every episode and article, it takes me some time getting all the experiences available.

How do these travel guides work?

Every guide here comes from my own experience being there, and everything I learned straight from locals, not from the internet. This is the kind of information that’s hard to find anywhere else. I’ll never write about a place or an experience I haven’t lived myself, so you can always trust what I recommend.

Can you help me plan my trip?

Yes, I have a trip planning tool you can use or you can contact me directly.
